In May of 2018, Blue Cross Shield released a report that contained shocking data on the state of mental health in the U.S. The report states that Americans who are commercially insured, 4.4% are diagnosed with major depression, that’s over 9.9 million people. Research conducted by The State University of New York looked at the endocannabinoid systems receptors interaction with other mammalian functions. New York University’s School of Medicine took a more direct look at cannabidiol’s ability to help improve anxiety and depression. What they found was that CBD is able to directly target the 5-HT1A receptor, which is responsible for the release of serotonin. The 5-HT1A receptor is often targeted by traditional depression medications, but CBD may be a more natural alternative to achieving the same goals.
Aside from pre-clinical and clinical trials, many people continue to report on how CBD has helped improve their depression conditions.
