Getting to know the difference between CBD Oil and Hemp Oil is important since their uses vary dramatically. Non-drug varieties of Cannabis Sativa plants, better known as industrial hemp, have been used as a source of fibre, food, and vegetable oil for thousands of years.

CBD ( Cannabidiol ) is a fundamental component of marijuana and studies are starting to show that it is an important element that supports a large variety of health problems. CBD is derived from cannabis, oil that contains CBD and that’s where people get confused, oil that contains CBD is often confused with hemp oil. Although both come from the same plant and contain elements that are sought after for their many health benefits and are quickly becoming established as useful products, albeit for largely different reasons.

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp Seed Oil is obtained by pressing the seeds from non-drug strains of hemp plants. These strains have lower levels of cannabinoids which are the substances that interact with our own cannabinoid receptors. The hemp seeds that are used to make food grade products are raw and the oil is cold-pressed, certified organic and non-GMO. Hemp seeds contain as much as 50% of their own weight in oil which makes it easy to extract. Hemp seeds are generally used for their nutritional value rather than their medicinal properties.

Hemp seed oil is considered a healthy, nutritionally balanced oil since it offers high levels of monounsaturated fats, and essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, and low levels of saturated fat. Hemp seed oil is renowned for its optimum balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, and only one tablespoon offers the full daily requirement for essential fatty acids.

Hemp seed oil is rich in plant sterols that are responsible for lowering cholesterol levels and is also rich in Vitamin E. Hemp oil seeds contain very little CBD and only trace amounts of THC, or none at all making them useless for anyone wanting to get high.

CBD ( Cannabidiol Oil )hemp plant

I’m sure while conducting research on industrial hemp you would have most likely come across CBD. So, what is it? CBD is a cannabinoid that is extracted from the flowers and leaves of non-drug strains of industrial hemp. These types of industrial hemp plants have been bred to produce naturally high levels of CBD but very low levels of THC, the psychoactive compound found in medical marijuana. Since CBD is oil-soluble it’s usually combined with other oils like olive oil, hemp seed oil, or coconut oil which produces cannabidiol oil that is easily absorbed into the body.

CBD is non-psychoactive and doesn’t produce a “high” but does provide beneficial relaxing effects. CBD is particularly useful for providing feelings of well-being and is especially effective at helping with stress, anxiety, and general aches and pains. CBD is also shown to be a powerful anti-inflammatory and since a large number of health issues are related to inflammation CBD is being used by more and more people every day.

Both CBD and hemp oil contain extremely low levels of the psychoactive substance THC, and in most cases contain none at all but it is found in marijuana. Both CBD and hemp oil are legal to take just about everywhere and with laws changing all the time, CBD oil and hemp oil will continue to become more popular with every passing day.

Both CBD and hemp oils offer an amazing array of health benefits and no matter which products you choose if you’re not sure about using CBD or hemp oil especially if you’re someone who is pregnant, chronically ill, elderly, or taking prescription or over the counter medicines, it is always wise to check with a physician or medical doctor first.

Thanks for explaining this! It can be so confusing!

I find this really confusing when shopping for CBD products. Lots of times on Amazon you see oils, etc. that look like they would be great for pain relief but as soon as you start reading the description it says ‘hemp oil’. Hemp oil is great for your skin but does nothing for pain.

Hi Nancy. Yes, it can be confusing but with more info becoming available all the time and more people looking to try CBD products, everything should be less confusing in the very near future.
